Momma's Boys

I photographed my last portrait session in New Jersey this past Sunday with Danielle and her boys. It was a perfect session to end my work in New Jersey. Being a mom of boys, I have a soft spot for the special bond between a mother and son! As you can see in the photos, the boys are just adorable. They kept me entertained during the entire session. It just made me smile seeing how much fun they had together. The boys had the most fun in front of the white gate. There were so many cute photos of them playing together that I couldn’t post them all. The pure laughter of children is beautiful! Of course I always love those precious Momma kisses! Those are always priceless. Thanks to the “C” Family for a wonderful afternoon and for ending my time in New Jersey with an awesome family portrait session!

"S" Family Session

The “S” Family recently welcomed a new puppy to their family and what better time to have family portraits taken! As you can see in the photos, he is one happy puppy. I previously photographed Little Mr. “S” and he was just as much fun this time as before! His eyes are gorgeous! I was able to get an even better photo of those beautiful brown eyes this session. It was fun watching those eyes light up as he played with his Dad! The photo of them two playing together is one of my favorites posted below. It was also precious seeing his bond with his mom! The beautiful smile on Mrs. “S’s” face as she hugs her son is priceless. Being with families always reminds me why I love photography so much. The joy and love that I capture warms my heart as I look at their portraits and I always hope to make them feel the same!

Father's Day

I thought Father’s Day would be the perfect time to honor my husband for the wonderful Father he is to our boys. I have never taken photos with him in his flight suit so I had him suit up and bring along the boys for a special Father’s Day session. Little did he know that this was for Father’s Day. I used these photos to make his Father’s Day cards through a wonderful online card service I use called Send Out Cards. I also surprised him with a 16x24 of the first portrait posted below for our home and an 8x10 for his office. I loved the big smile on his face when he saw his Father’s Day gift! Being a military family, you never know when your loved one will be home or what holidays you will be able to celebrate together. So, we are thankful for any and all of the time we have together as a family. Happy Father’s Day to my amazing husband, my wonderful Dad, and all of the other great Father’s…there are so many! Thank you for all you do!

Soon to Be Sweet 16

I always love photographing teens! They have so much energy and enthusiasm. Raina is such a natural poser and a beautiful girl inside and out. She is just a few months from her Sweet 16. I also photographed Raina in her stunning dress…but those photos will be posted after her big party so stay tuned!

"B" Family Session

I love summer because location photography is by far my favorite. There are so many more options outdoors. I spent a couple of hours with the “B” family at Smithville Park. I photographed Little Ms. “B” in a previous session so this day was more for Little Mr. “B” and to get some portraits of the family together. There is nothing cuter than little boys in hats! There is several of Little Mr. “B” in his hat that I love! I also love his hair. What a little cutie! My favorite of the kids together is the big brother kiss. How sweet! It is one of those photos that reminds me why I love photography. It tugged at my heart because my sister recently had a birthday and I sent her a photo of us when we were little girls in her birthday card. She loved it! I hope for years to come the “B” Family treasures these precious photos.

"C" Family Portrait Session

You would never imagine from these beautiful family portraits that it rained off and on throughout the “C” family’s session. We still had a great time and as always, it was very hard for me to decide which portraits to post because I loved so many of them. I took these photos the day before Mother’s Day and I was thinking what a wonderful time to have family portraits taken! As a Mom, I know there is nothing I love more than seeing photos of my family! The “C” kids were so precious! Their little personalities really came through in their portraits. I think one of my favorite photos is the one with them jumping while their parents watch from aside. I always like to let kids have a break and jump and have fun because that is what they love to do and you can see the joy in their faces! Thank you for a beautiful family portrait session “C” family! "M" Family Portrait Session

It is always exciting photographing a family I have known for years. I was at Mr. and Mrs. M's wedding so I was thrilled when they asked me to take newborn/family portraits for them. I spent the afternoon at the M family's home photographing this precious time in their lives. I love the overwhelming joy Mr. and Mrs. M have for their precious little girl. I can see already that Baby M has her Daddy wrapped around her fingers! There were so many beautiful portraits from this session that I had a hard time narrowing it down to a few favorites. Enjoy!

Kinley's Newborn Portrait Session

It just doesn't get much more precious than this! The first photo below was by far my favorite. Just look at those eyes...makes my heart melt! Baby Kinley helped me break in my studio lights. She was a perfect little model! I also loved her in the yellow flower. She is "sleeping like a baby" in the basket. Babies are so adorable when they are sleep and always makes beautiful portraits! My Boys

I was looking for the most recent photo of my boys together and realized I hadn't taken any since Christmas. I get so busy working on client photos that sometimes I have to remind myself of the most important little men in my life! Bryan is 9 months old in these portraits. My favorite is the first photo below. My oldest son, Tre, asked me, "Mommy, will you take a photo of Bryan looking up at me with me holding his hands?" Of course, this will be my favorite photo for years to come and I will always remind Tre why...so precious!

I've had ordering new studio lights on my "to do" list for a while. The cold weather encouraged me to finally go ahead and get them! Of course, my first model was the cutest little baby in my house. I only snapped five shots because he was restless but this was exactly what I had in mind. I will be posting more studio work, so stay tuned!

I moved away from South Carolina almost two years ago, but I have still managed to photograph the "L" Family the past two years for their annual family/Christmas portraits! Being an Air Force spouse has brought the most wonderful people into my life! In fact, Mrs. “L” and I became best friends during our time in South Carolina. She has encouraged me from the moment I started Jennifer Gilliam Photography! There is nothing better than having a best friend believe in and support you. Owen's Portrait Session

Owen has eyes and eyelashes that just make your heart melt! He is such a cutie. I photographed Owen in his backyard and it was the perfect place to capture his little personality. We planned on getting a photo of Owen and his dog, Charley, but as you see below, Owen and Charley had plans of their own. I love the photo of Charley with Owen in the background playing with his train on the tree! It makes me laugh because sometimes I have ideas in mind but it reminds me who the boss is in photo sessions…the little ones. Owen loves trains and when his mom brought it out he had the biggest smile on his face. It was nice playing in the leaves with Little Mr. Owen. Children always remind me of the simple joys in life!

"G" Family Portrait Session

The “G” family decided to use their beautiful home as the backdrop for their family portrait session. One of the things I love most about location photography is the beautiful places I go! It also makes sessions more personable and comfortable for families, especially children! The wonderful fall setting along with such a photogenic family made for some gorgeous family portraits! Baby “G” was a little doll! As you can see from the photos below, she had several great portraits. I always take bubbles along with me for children to play with during our breaks. She would look at me and say, “Bubbles.” So cute! Needless to say, I enjoyed my time with the “G” family. It was fun watching the “G” family interact and seeing the love they share! Some of the most beautiful portraits were taken during those candid moments when they were just enjoying each other! Priceless! Thanks for a lovely afternoon “G” family!

Shea's Senior Portait Session

Shea and I had a great time during his session! My favorite photos are the ones of him playing his guitar. What I enjoyed the most is that I would tell him just to play something and relax like he was there all by himself and he played the most beautiful, calming music! We had a perfectly beautiful day for the "L" family portrait session! I had so many favorites I couldn't narrow it down below the 13 I have selected below. It is always a good feeling photographing a family and leaving feeling like I have known them forever! The "L" boys were absolutely precious. Baby "L" loves balls! He was content just sitting and playing with his favorite airplane ball. Big Brother "L" loves his dogs. I could see the joy in his eyes, and the biggest smile, as you see below, when he was walking his dog. Family portrait sessions always remind me of how much I love what I do! I know for years to come this beautiful family will look at their portraits and remember this special time in their lives and to be able to capture these memories for them is very rewarding to me! I proudly introduce, Bryan Lawrence, our newest addition to our family. Bryan was born June 15. I finally got enough sleep and energy to edit and post a few photos. Bryan was born 8 lbs 3 oz so I knew I didn't have long to get those precious newborn portraits before he got chunky. What a blessing this little boy has been to our family! I have been photographing Nate since he was born. Nate's mom often tells me that he doesn't do well for anyone else that takes photos of him. I am glad that I have left such an impression on this handsome little boy! It is probably because I do crazy things during my sessions like say, "Jump Nate!". I am usually behind the camera so you rarely see photos of me. Bo, my 14 year old brother-in-law, took this photo of my husband and me. I have had this photo idea in my mind for a long time and couldn't wait for your next formal event. I told Bo what I had in mind and set everything up for him and as you see, he did a great job. Little Miss Mother Nature

I was amazed at how much Leah loved being outside. As I photographed her, she was in her own world playing with flowers and enjoying the outdoors. I thought Leah's photos were beautiful because they captured her doing what she enjoys! The first photo was one of my favorites because it really shows how much Leah enjoys nature. Mother Nature also played a big role in this session because we were rained out twice. Our third scheduled date was a charm! What a beautiful day to photograph an adorable little girl!

As Leah's mom and I talked preparing for the session, we learned that we are both from Arkansas and even know a lot of the same people. It really is a small world! Who would imagine that I would be in New Jersey and photograph someone that grew up in a town only 15 minutes from my hometown.

Aiden's 5 Month Portraits

What beautiful eyes! Of course I am a little bias because this is my precious baby nephew. I drove to Texas from Arkansas just to see this little fellow (after driving all the way from New Jersey). I haven't seen Aiden since he was just a couple of weeks old when I took his newborn portraits. I sure wish we lived closer to them. Aiden was so tired when we took these photos. He was thrown off his schedule when he got home because his Aunt Jen Jen wouldn't stop kissing and hugging on him! The first photo below is my absolute favorite.

Little Mr. Dre'

I went on vacation before school started back for the kids and decided to do a little work while I was away. Dre' and I had a great time at Azalea Park. I miss going there for photo sessions! Dre' was not camera shy at all! He was just too adorable in his white blazer. Even though he was ready to take the jacket off, he posed like a GQ model while he had it on! It is amazing how much you can learn from a 3 year old. I will just say you would have to know Dre' to know that he is a strong little boy!

First Day of PreK

I made sure I took a photo of my 4 year old on his first day of PreK. He was so excited! I thought I was handling it well until I got in the car by myself from dropping him off. A few tears ran down my face. All I could think of was looking into Tre's eyes for the first time. It seems like just a few months ago. Now, Tre on the other hand was fine. He really adjusts well and just walked in like he had always been there. This special moment reminds me of the reason I love photography so much! I remember when Tre was born a nurse at the hospital told me she could tell Tre was my first child because I was taking so many photos. In fact, I think I will take more photos if I my blessed to have another child because I feel like there are so many photos I missed of Tre that I wish I had! Time flies. All I have of left of Tre's baby years are memories and photos which will last forever! It is so heart warming to look through old photos of him. It just makes me smile and takes me back to those precious moments. I never imagined how much joy this little boy would bring into my life!

Family Portrait Session

It is always fun photographing families! I enjoy capturing the love and interaction they share. This beautiful family had several great portraits. One of my favorites is the first portrait below. The girls caught a cricket and were playing with it and I snapped a few photos. I love the natural smiles on children's faces as they play. Their smiles are so innocent and joyful. Nothing brings more joy to parents than to see their children happy! What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Tre's 4 Year Old Portraits

I took my favorite little model out to the Historic Smithville Park for his 4 year old portraits. In the middle of Tre's session, he looked at me and said, "Mommy, I love you." Of course my heart melted! I see how hard it is for parents to select their favorite portraits because I just couldn't decide which photos to post. I realized that my son is learning a lot from me because he was telling me where he wanted to take photos. He also was very persistent about wearing all white!

Luke and Ally's Portrait Session

I really enjoyed my first New Jersey portrait session with Luke and Ally. They made it very easy for me by being so photogenic! I had the hardest time narrowing down my favorites. It has been such a rainy summer in NJ. We finished the last photo and had to run in because it poured down!

Statue of Liberty

I finally made it to the Statue of Liberty after living in NJ almost six months! We were on our ferry ride back to NJ when I turned around and saw the first photo below. I thought it was beautiful. The US flag was waving in the air behind the ferry and in a distance I could see the Statue of Liberty! How priceless!

AJSV 2009 (Aunt JenJen Summer Vacation)

There is nothing more precious to me than the time I spend with my family, especially the little ones. For three weeks this summer I had my two nephews and niece. I had five kids at home and it was a lot of work but so much FUN! Actually for one of those weeks, another niece was here too so that made six! There is so much to do in the New Jersey area but the beach was their favorite. I thought I would share their beautiful little faces...and feet. :)

Chris and Tanya's Wedding

Chris and Tanya's wedding was my photography dream, a destination wedding. This beautiful wedding was in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Every year I like to photograph a few weddings to keep me on my toes. This is the first big wedding I photographed by myself so it was very busy but very rewarding! I am in Texas right now with my sister and my new baby nephew! I had to post one of the photos I have taken so far. This is day two and you wouldn't believe how many photos I have taken. Singleton 25th Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Singleton celebrated their 25th anniversary by renewing their vows. This was the largest group I have ever photographed. There were about 50 people in their ceremony. I really enjoyed myself. It is always great to see couples celebrating 25 years of marriage. They also have a beautiful family!

Mommy George and I did one of the most creative things I have ever done in a session to get the portraits of the two girls together! We couldn't get the girls to sit down together unless Mommy was holding them SO Mommy George sat down, I covered her with another black backdrop, and now she has a beautiful portrait of her two daughters together! We laughed the entire session, but it worked! I photographed the oldest daughter when she was the baby's age. Time flies! The girls are so precious.

Baker Portrait Session

Baby Baker was such a happy baby! He smiled and laughed the entire session. There are so many great photos of him. I picked a few of my favorites. The first photo is my favorite. Those beautiful blue eyes and precious kiss from Mommy made a priceless portrait!

Todd Family Portrait Session

The Todd family decided to take portraits in Downtown Charleston, which is always fun because there are so many options. I have photographed the two youngest girls before and will be posting their oldest daughter's session. What a photogenic family! The Todd family and I will never forget this memorable session. It rained off and on the entire time we were taking photos! You would never imagine from these beautiful portraits that we had to run for shelter a couple of times. We were determined to get some great portraits despite the rain.

Porter Maternity Session

I really enjoy home portrait sessions! The Porters are such an amazing couple and I really enjoyed my time photographing them. They made me feel so welcome in their home. As you can see in the last photo, these photos were taken before Christmas. I have also taken their son's portraits which I will be posting as I catch up! He is such a beautiful reflection of their love!

If you have been wondering why I haven't posted anything lately, it is because I have had a crazy 2009. After my husband returned from his deployment, we went to New Jersey to find a home. We then drove back to South Carolina, went to Arkansas for my sister's baby shower (maternity portraits to come), and then back to South Carolina for our movers to come. Since then I have been getting everything unboxed and settled into our new home. My task for this week is to post at least half of the about 18 sessions I have had since December. Thank you to all of my clients in South Carolina. I will miss you! I am working on my website and reorganizing my business for New Jersey. Jennifer Gilliam Photography is still in business just a new location! Thanks for your patience during this transition!

Ashley's Senior Portraits

Calvin's Photo Session

I traveled to Arkansas for Thanksgiving and of course I never miss an opportunity to take photos. I had several ideas in mind because I grew up in the country on a farm. Unfortunately, it was raining so I was only able to snap these few photos of Calvin before the rain picked up. Calvin was previously on my blog last year. He has grown a lot since then. He always looks forward to seeing his Aunt Jen Jen so I can take his photos.

Magnuson Family Beach Portraits

I had the joy of photographing the Magnuson girls last year! I was really excited when they contacted me to schedule family beach portraits. Last year, their Dad was on a military trip. So, I was really happy for them that their Dad is home this year to take photos with them! It was a little chilly on the beach but we still had a great time. The Magnuson girls are so sweet. As we walked along the beach taking photos, they picked up shells and one of the girls handed me a shell and said, "This one is for you, Mrs. Jennifer." When I got home, I cleaned the shell and put it in my camera bag. So thank you Magnsuon girls for my "Lucky Shell". After we finished taking photos, the girls really wanted to run in the water. So, their Dad rolled up his pants and took off with the girls into the water (last two photos). These moments are so special! You have a special appreciation for these moments when you are a military family and Daddy or Mommy is not always home.

Johnson Family Portraits

Azalea Park is always a great location for family portraits. I have not photographed the Johnson's since their maternity portraits so it was nice to spend time with them and take their family portraits. Baby Johnson turned one a few months ago. He is absolutely adorable. I could just feel the love of this beautiful family. I always love watching families interact with each other. It really tells a lot about them. The Johnson family spends a lot of time together and it is wonderful seeing such great love in a family!

Howard 25th Anniversary

The Howards celebrated their 25th anniversary with a vow renewal ceremony. I was in charge of photographing Mrs. Howard getting ready at her home while two other photographers were at the church. I really enjoyed being a part of the Howard's vow renewal ceremony. It is always a blessing when someone celebrates 25 years of marriage! Mrs. Howard was so excited and beautiful!

Greene 5 Month Portraits

I am always excited to photograph the Greene twins! It is amazing seeing the special bond between them. During the session, I noticed the twins would hold hands and it was absolutely precious. I was able to capture this priceless bond in the third photograph. There were several great photos of the twins but here a few of my favorites. When the twins were one month old, I took the same photo of them over their mom's shoulder. It is amazing seeing their growth! I can actually tell the difference between the boys now!

Cannon's 9 Month Portraits

Cannon is nine months! It seems like just the other day I was taking his three month portraits. I get so excited to see "my babies" growing. The most memorable part of Cannon's session is when I picked him up, he would always put his forehead against mine and just smile. It was absolutely adorable. It is amazing how little ones do the most simple, precious things that just warm your heart! Cannon's Mommy's favorite photo of him is the fourth photo of him chewing on the chair. I just could not decide on my favorite because Cannon is just so photogenic!

OSP (Open Source Photo) South 3: Charleston and Catching Up!

One of my photographer friends recommended the OSP South 3 Conference to me November 10 - 12 and I went along. I really enjoyed myself. I met some really great photographers and learned a lot from the speakers. In the mornings, we had presentations on various topics such as Lifestyle Portraiture, Album Sales, Marketing, and Pricing. In the afternoons, we went into break out sessions. I went on two different photo tours, one with Matt McGraw and the other with Valerie Schooling. I learned some great photo tips by watching these two photographers in action. It was nice to get hands on experience as well as listen to presentations. I have been going to every photography conference or seminar I can to expand my knowledge. OSP is a forum for photographers to communicate and learn things together and from each other. I have joined after going to this conference since I had such a great experience. Now, I just have to find time to get on as much as possible to keep learning. So between the conference, photo sessions, and life, I am behind again! I will be making several posts in the next few days. Enjoy!

My Favorite Photo of Tre

I have taken several photos of Tre, but this is my favorite so far. This is why I love photography so much. Every time I take a photo, it is freezing that moment in time to remember forever. I will look at this photo in years to come and remember, the joy in my son's eyes as he looks at me. This photo was taken after one of my photo sessions. Tre and Bo were at the park with me and Tre came up to me and said, "Mommy, will you take my picture too?". Tre thinks I take every photo he sees. When we are looking at magazines, Tre asks me, "Mommy, when did you take that picture?". The joy in Tre's eyes inspires me. It inspires me because I know he believes in me. When Tre grows up, I will show him this photo and let him know how much he inspired me with that beautiful glow in his eyes!

Ramirez Family Session

We were finally able to get the entire Ramirez family together for a photo session at Azalea Park. Hope has grown so much since the last time I photographed her. Her big brother loves her so much. He is really good at holding her and making her smile and laugh as you see in the second photo. The Ramirez family is such a beautiful family and really enjoy taking photos. In my previous post, I talked about the photos my little brother-in-law, Bo, took for me. I never get in photos because I am always taking them. Bo took these photos for me after one of my sessions at Azalea Park. I was proud of how great Bo did and told him I would post a few. Bo is a great assistant! I was so happy to get photos of me and my little boy. He is growing up so fast!

Bo's Downtown Charleston Session

Bo and I had a great time in Downtown Charleston taking photos! Bo is my brother-in-law and a little model. I am also teaching him how to take photos so he can help me on some jobs. I will post one of the photos he took of my son and me. Every since Bo was little and he would come visit us in the summer, he has been good at taking photos. We went to Florida when he was about 6 years old and he took some nice photos of my husband and me on the beach. Bo lives with us now and is such a good little man. We had so many great photos, it was hard to decide which to post.

College of Charleston Multicultural Center

I had the wonderful opportunity to work with the College of Charleston Multicultural Student Programs and Services (MSPS) for their Shades of You program. I also took brochure photography for them. It was fun working with college students. It took me back a few years and made me miss college a little! The Multicultural Student Programs and Services' staff is so friendly and I always look forward to working with them.

Lee Family Beach Portraits

I have taken Nate's portraits since he was born. Since I have been taking his photos as long as he can remember, every time he sees me with a camera he is ready to smile and pose. We were finally able to get the entire family together for beach portraits. We had such a great time at Folly Beach. I wish we would have gotten there a little sooner because the sun started going fast but we were still able to capture some great photos. My favorite family portrait is the first photo! What a beautiful family!

Isabella's 2 Month Portrait Session

A few months ago, I photographed Isabella's parents' maternity photos at the beach. Well, now the the beautiful little angel is here! Isabella was a joy to photograph. By the end of the session, we had tired her out and she fell asleep. There were so many beautiful portraits from this session it took a while for me to narrow them down. My absolute favorite is the first Madonna Portrait of Isabella and her mom. How priceless!

Reed's 6 Month Portraits

Tre's 3 Year Old Portraits

Tre turned three in July and I am just getting around to taking photos of him. I wanted to take them outside but it seems to rain every time I plan to go to Downtown Charleston and take his photos. Tre really wanted to take photos, but after I had everything set up he said, "Mommy, I don't want to take pictures". As you see, we had a little "talk" and Mommy won. :) I have had a lot of request for new photos of Tre so here are a few. I will post a few more later.

Audrey and Bre's Portrait Session

We went to downtown Charleston for Audrey and Bre's photo session. I love photos around the Pineapple Fountain. It is such a beautiful place for portraits. These two girls were so much fun to work with and are adorable! These two cousins are like sisters. Watching them took me back to being a little girl and just having fun and being care free. Audrey and Bre's family were so happy with their photos that I received the note below. It always brings me great joy to capture special moments for my clients and it means so much to me that they loved their photos so much that they took time out to express their gratitude.

Today is my parent's 40th anniversary! I thought I would post a special message in their honor today. They were married in Basile, LA. Forty years, four kids, and three grandchildren later, they still look so adorable together. These photos were taken while we were in Arkansas at the Old Mill. Congratulations, Dad and Mom!
